Numerical and Experimental Study on the Process of Filling Water in Pressurized Water Pipeline

As an important working condition in water conveyance projects, the filling process of pipelines is a complex hydraulic transition involving water–air two-phase flow with sharp pressure changes that can easily cause pipeline damage. In light during filling, this study explores right-angle elbow using CFD numerical simulations and physical model experiments, analyzing phase volume fraction, water-gas patterns, parameters under low rate conditions 0.6 m/s high 1.5 m/s. Results show conditions, there more local trapped gas at top pipeline, causing negative points forming vacuum. Under velocity frequently large number bubbles collapsing top, resulting fluctuations pressure. Finally, through main patterns elbows are verified analyzed. These results have certain reference significance for formulating safe efficient schemes pressurized pipelines.
